PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
- rovide for the availability, maintenance, configuration and enhancements of the BaNCS (core banking) system, thereby ensuring service excellence to all end users i.e. Mercantile Bank Business Units, their customers and 3rd Parties.
KEY DELIVERABLES/OUTPUTS
- Drawing up of the Project Charter / Business Requirement Specification (BRS) for new/enhanced requirements. For large project where a dedicated Project Manager is managing the project, Systems Specialist will contribute to the production of the Project Charter / BRS and all the required documentation to derive a solution. Getting User signoff for implementation of new functionality. Manage cost of development and contribute in project review meetings.
- Analyse and interpret BRS into potential system functionality and rules. Research and analyse the new business requirement and recommend a solution. .Interpret the recommended solution into a Functional Requirements Specification (FRS) and create test plans, test data and test packs for each project. Design the agreed solution and complete the required documentation. Obtain signoff for the solution from the Business Unit. If changes involve development, then communicate requirements to vendors, and if it is configuration changes, follow the Change Control process. Manage the development of specified new functionality through vendors and manage the implementation of the agreed solution.
- Perform Unit Testing and Systems Integration Testing within the Bank’s provided or recommended test infrastructure & policies. Make recommendations for training and development of systems/user manuals and e-learning modules.
- Providing 3rd level support and data extractions services in aid of a problem resolution process. .Analyse and resolve system problems within the agreed SLAs between Information Technology department and the relevant business departments. Document problem solutions for future reference as lessons learned.
- Ensure that all changes in the System upgrades, systems configuration changes or application parameter changes (e.g “Fee Adjustments”) have been approved by business and have been tested. .Implement the agreed security changes and assist with the audit thereof by the Governance and Change Manager.
- Manage and report any security breaches to the relevant authorities. Ensure that appropriate security monitoring tools have been implemented, and that support processes are executed to monitor and report on systems performance. Provide regular feedback to business on the overall availability and performance of the system.
- Perform the daily operational functions. Recommend systems changes to the Systems Owner with regards to performance & capacity management and the upgrade of systems and hardware (when required) for Mercantile systems. Perform the necessary maintenance tasks to optimise the system performance and data integrity of the database as per the research done and best practices.
- Log and follow-up issues with Vendors. Communicate possible solutions of business requirements or system problems to Mercantile Business Units as feedback is provided from the Vendors. Document the Business Requirements or Problem Solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

Matric plus an appropriate tertiary qualification (NQF5 or above) with 3 years relevant experience in IT OR Matric with 6 years relevant experience in IT. |

- Held Positions as System Administrator, Database Administrator, Help Desk Agent or Business Analysts for of 3 years
- Knowledge of the Banking industry
- A proven track record working in project teams
- Knowledge of the BaNCS system
