PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
- Provide services to an assigned Business Division and take accountability for maintenance and support of the banking system (BaNCS systems).
- Manage IT resources (System specialists) associated with these services and become accountable for the optimal functioning of the BaNCS system through SLA management.
KEY DELIVERABLES/OUTPUTS
- Maintenance of a close working relationship with the Business Systems Owner. Participation in Business Planning forums on new functionality and business priorities for Systems. Acting as a technical consultant to the business. While implementing a project, ensuring that Business Owners are updated on progress of the project.
- Implementing new systems functionality. Assist with the planning and co-ordination of projects and ad-hoc solution enhancements that span multiple business units and /or multiple IT solutions. Coordination of team members (Systems Specialists, Business Process Analysts) in defining the Business Functionality as per SDLC standards and processes. Coordination with the Vendor(s) to build the required functionality. Coordination with the Testing Manager, and Change and Governance Manager for release into Production. Setting up of the system according to the Vendor specification.
- Drawing up a Systems Plan that is aligned to the business priorities and objectives for each module of the system. Participating in, and providing input to the OPEX and CAPEX planning cycle to ensure that capacity exists to execute the Systems Plan. Drawing up of a Disaster Recovery Plan.
- Assigning and resolving incidents related to the BaNCS System through appropriate allocation of resources, where necessary coordinating with the Business Support Manager, Services Delivery Manager, ODS Manager or the Vendor. Responsible for reporting on all system failures as per the correct Mercantile Bank reporting processes.
- Participating in the Change Control forum. Following the correct Change Control Process for all changes in the System (code drops or patches), System Configuration settings. Supervision of software and hardware upgrades.
- Selecting and implementing appropriate monitoring tools and reporting on overall systems performance. Report on all software installations for licensing purposes.
- Pro-actively investigating system performance, and working closely with the Chief Architect to recommend and implement changes to improve systems performance and ensure ongoing stability of the System.
- Ensuring that recurring Administration and scheduled tasks and processes are conducted by the correct Systems Specialists or outsourced vendor.
- Working with the Service Delivery Manager in defining, monitoring and managing SLAs. Managing the process by which technical updates/patches are tested and applied (where appropriate).
- Strictly manage costs with regards to software license usage. Responsible for staff recruitment, selection, induction, performance management, development and succession planning

- 2 years general experience in a Banking Environment
- Experience in Project Management with proven track record of Project Delivery
- 6 years of relevant experience in managing an IT system
- A proven track record in leading, and efficiently managing project teams
- Successful delivery of multiple complex, integrated projects – proven track record
- Knowledge of the BaNCS system
